You’ve made donations or sponsored events, but they didn’t have the effect you expected.

And sometimes, it feels like no matter what you do, it never quite hits the mark.

Take the guesswork out of getting started

If you're unsure where to start with community engagement, you're not alone.

Many businesses want to do the right thing — respond to complaints, support local causes, improve their reputation — but don’t have the tools or confidence to take that first step.

This guide is designed to bridge that gap. It helps you assess where you are now, understand what community engagement involves, and start taking action in a way that’s achievable and relevant to your business.

Whether you're responding to local concerns or simply want to give back in a more structured way, this guide gives you the clarity and direction to move forward.

Hi, I’m Emma Smith

I’m the founder of Nia Avanna, a consultancy that helps businesses build stronger relationships with the local communities they operate in.

I’ve worked in community engagement for over a decade, starting in the public sector with police and local councils, then moving into the private sector, helping national businesses create structured engagement plans that actually work.

When I first started, there were no guides or frameworks, I had to figure out what worked through trial and error. I learned how to build trust, tailor communications, and make engagement a long-term part of how a business operates.

Now, I’ve packaged up everything I’ve learned into tools and resources that help other businesses do the same — starting with this free guide.
